What You Need to Know: Valley of the Moon Winery (at the Madrone Estate) is one of the oldest operating vineyards in Glen Ellen.  Located just 5 miles above the Sonoma Plaza, Valley of the Moon Winery makes incredible Pinot Blancs, Pinot Noirs and an unoaked Chardonnay that is not to be missed.  Now, with a new chef and one of the best food pairings in the area, it is an ideal spot for wine country newbies and locals alike.

Window Block Kitchen Tasting

valleyofthemoon-3.jpg

While Valley of the Moon offers a variety of great tasting and tour options, we will be sharing a look at their new Window Block Kitchen tasting.

With that said, "tasting" isn't really the right word; delicious 3-course meal would be more appropriate. Created and perfectly executed by Chef Sam Badolato, his unique seasonal menus are a mix of simplicity and creativity that will leave you wanting more.  Do yourself a favor and come hungry (and thirsty)!

This experience is offered by reservation only Thursday through Sunday (11am - 4pm) for $45/person - this is honestly the best deal you will find in the Sonoma area.

Panzanella Bread Salad

A great way to start the meal - light and flakey with a beautiful bite from the brined vegetables. This dish will inspire you to be more creative in the kitchen at home and take a new approach to a basic starter.

Wine Pairing: 2016 Valley of the Moon Unoaked Chardonnay - balanced, not too overpowering and a crisp finish. This is the perfect summer wine!

Classic Matzah Ball Soup

Or as Alec called it, Matzah Baseball Soup. It's made using a secret ingredient (that Chef Sam will never tell) which gives a unique flavor to the broth. The best part? The matzah is filled with flaked Foie Gras! After this hearty course we were could barely imagine diving into another.

Wine Pairing: 2015 Valley of the Moon Pinot Noir - a true Carneros Pinot! The wine is beautiful, subtle, and dangerously drinkable - paper thin notes with a robust finish.

Spring Lamb Loin Chop

The presentation alone will blow you away. How does it taste though?

There may not be anything better than perfectly cooked lamb without overpowering sauces, purees or any other concoctions today's Chefs imagine. Complimented by a simple, but unique, "carrot-top mint pesto" (literally the greens from the carrot), this dish was one of our favorite lamb preparations to date.

Wine Pairings: 2014 Madrone Estate Old Vine Zinfandel - a best-in-class example of a Sonoma Zinfandel.  Flavorful and inspiring entry with a surprisingly full finish.

2014 Madrone Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - the top of the line Madrone has to offer - a complex, classic Cabernet that carries more nuance and history than the price tag suggests.
